Someone just told me that the milk producers put cornstarch in 1% milk and therefore we shouldn't drink it and we should go back to drinking 2% or whole milk. I've heard in Denver they've made the schools go back to whole milk because of this.
I've been drinking 1% milk for quite a while now - do you know if there's any truth to this?
There is no evidence that we have found of cornstarch in milk. All food manufacturers are required to put all ingredients on their packages. We have researched this and have not found any evidence that cornstarch is being added to milk of any kind.
It's worth noting that the state of Colorado (www.colorado.gov) serves 1% milk as well as skim milk in its Special Milk Program, which provides milk to children who qualify.
Thanks for writing.
