How much CO2 is in Pepsi, 7-Up and Mountain Dew?
Using a 500 mL bottle of Coca-Cola, we poured it into a 1 quart Pyrex measuring cup. Our trusty stick blender with the whisk attachment provided gentle agitation to release as much of the carbon dioxide as possible. We then let the Coke sit for 12 hours, stirring it occasionally.
We used my very unscientific electronic kitchen scale. The result was a loss of 10 grams by weight. After the initial agitation, 6 grams of weight was lost. Now, we don't have the most scientific equipment, but that seems a fair amount of CO2 -- about the amount in the cartridges used for inflating the tires on a bicycle (they have 12 grams of CO2).
Thanks for writing.
