I take Famotidine for GERD, but I would like a list of foods that are safe/foods to avoid. It seems that most of my favorites (onions, tomatoes, garlic) are triggers.
The research is very mixed on what are specific GERD / Acid Reflux triggers and what are not. What appears to be the case is that this is very much an individual issue. For instance, one person might have trouble with onions and another might not. Some folks will do well if the onions have been cooked well, such as in a soup or when they have been caramelized. Roasted garlic might be safe when raw garlic is not.
You can find more information on GERD / Acid Reflux and food triggers on the website.
A good way to begin is to eliminate all of the most common GERD trigger foods and then add them back in one at a time to see which ones affect you.
